Installation Notes for WFPC 1.0 (Windows 3.1) on TP730T

Enclosed in the zip file is two file:

	ibm730t.drv
	ibm730t.386

These files were only distributed with the hard drive on a
730T computer or with a backup kit which included the
Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 installation diskettes. I
could never get the installation diskettes, but found
someone with a 730T running WFPC 1.0 and copied the files
from there.

The basic installation consists of these steps:

Install PCDOS 6.3 or later (MSDOS would probably work).

	Install Options:
	DOS Shell	NO
	PCMCIA support	NO
	PenDOS		NO

Install Windows 3.1

	Install Options:
	Computer:	MS-DOS System with APM
        Display:	VGA

Install Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 (1.0a is probably fine).

	As the original ibm diskettes are unavailable I used
	the disk for a GRID computer. I'm sure Dauphin,
	Toshiba diskettes, etc., are fine. The basic install
	is the same except for the pen drivers. The 730T
	uses the basic vgap.drv video driver, so I don't
	think there will be problems there.

	Don't reboot after the installation.

	Copy the ibm730t.drv and ibm730t.386 files to the
	c:\windows\system directory.

	Open the c:\windows\system.ini file in a text editor
	and edit it as follows.

		Under the [drivers] section change the pen=entry
			to read pen=ibm730t.drv.

		Under the [386Enh] section create an entry which
			reads device=ibm730t.386.

		Now find the entry which corresponds to the old pen
			device and delete it. Usually the name is
			the same as in ibm730t.drv and ibm730t.386,
			but not always.

		Edit the [Pen driver] section to read
			[Pen Driver]
			wOffsetX=980
			wOffsetY=962
			wDistinctWidth=3838
			wDistinctHeight=2884

	Now reboot the system and the pen and pen windows should
	work.

Install the 730T system diskette

	The image file is called s730t110.exe and is available
	on the ibm website. Follow the directions for instal-
	lation in the readme.doc.
